Triplet

April 16th, 2008

Three things. All having to do with April. I’ll try to keep them short.

1) Mario Kart Wii comes out later this month. Yes, I happen to love Mario Kart… Nintendo and it’s rehashes. Oh well. Only thing I’m NOT looking forward to is apparently it has the same DRE problem that Smash Brothers Brawl had. So there’s a good chance I will be sending my Wii off to get repaired at that time. Specially since I’m sick of dealing with it on Brawl.

2) Yes 4/20 is coming up. Undoubtedly I will be getting a flood of “virtual joints” from my pot head friends. Tell ya what, save your self the trouble. I don’t care. Also no one knows what the hell 4/20 has to do with pot anyhow. Let it go. Otherwise I’m going to remind you it’s also Hitlers birthday.

3) Introduction to Linux. You see one of my friends did something that I personally don’t consider all to bright. He lifted content. However it is easier to read than the source blog. Sorry I’m not a big fan of them stupid contextual ad things. I am however a fan of the Linux operating system. So please, hit the read more link and follow the rest of the post. That thing called Marriage

April 8th, 2008

I have this very very deep desire to amputate my ring fingers. It’s not some sort of body dysmorphic disorder, but rather the thought of marriage terrifies me. I seem to be dead set against doing it. Nothing against those that do, just I don’t understand it. Why do I need a piece of paper that says and confirms to the government that I love someone and and binding myself with them? Well ok there is the slight religious aspect of it, but remember who is typing this… it don’t make sense to me either.

Whats odd though, is earlier this month I watched my Mom get married for the third time. She did the justice of the piece thing, I was my typical smartass self. Later this month I’ll see my Dad get married… while in a monkey suit tux. Then next month one of my good friends is getting married and I will be in a tux once more. Then there’s another wedding I’ll be going to later in the year to see an other buddy get married.

Maybe at some point I’ll understand why people make a big fuss over a business contract that just happens to be formed in a church.  Until then, it’s just a big mystery to me.

The Way of the Beast

April 1st, 2008

Sometimes discussions lead to strange ideas, usually for the other person. Over the course of emailing someone the topic of pain had come up. I had made the following comment: physical manifestation of emotional pain as a form of coping with that that you cannot deal with. thats my tattoos, my piercings. Granted that is my OWN reasoning for it usually. However I’m not sure this holds true for everyone. In fact I’d say that is rather an exception than a norm. I know of several people that have tattoos and pierces that got them for totally different reasons. While it still might be an emotional reason, it is not a painful emotion. But they do still serve as a method of memory I’m sure.

Anyhow thats not even the fun part of the email. But to get to that there will be a slight disconnect in ideas, subject, and topic flow here so that we can jump to the idea stereotypes.

I had a teacher admit that stereotypes are based on truths. This actually does two things; it validates my thoughts on this, and makes me think I should have gone for higher education (lord knows my writing skills could use it). Seriously though, anyone that attempts to tell you that stereotypes are not based on truths is full of crap. The problem realizing if the truths are sound and valid. While it may be a stereotype that a certain race or type of person has a predisposition towards violence and criminal activity, you must ask yourself if those truths are valid. If you can find flaw in the source of a stereotype then you can find exceptions to the stereotype and maybe open your eyes a little.

Broken down in to ideas that don’t connect, but should make sense…
One of the traits of being human is recognition of patterns. It helps keep us alive and make reasonable assumptions.
We learn by observing patterns.
These patterns become stereotypes. They are perfectly normal and natural.

The problem is when you take a stereotype and you apply it in a negative way and fail to realize that sometimes patterns are broken and the stereotype does not hold true. Or since standing on the shoulders of a giant you will see further, allow me to just link to a comic that explains it very nicely.

Hello API

April 1st, 2008

For those that don’t know what an API is, I suggest you learn them. They are a highly abused, highly used, and a great exploit on the internet. But stop and think for a moment. Read the EULA and the TOS. I feel they will hurt you in the end. After you read them, rape them, apply sexuality to them… I’m feeling that you will enjoy it since it feels so good. Feel free to abuse, molest, and rape them. I feel a great many will agree with that, if for different reasons than mine.

After all the EFF and FSF both of these ideas make sense (kill the SNR and have fun). But the MPAA and the RIAA do it to a MUCH greater extent. But those links won’t get pick’d up. Just like that Twain reference there.

If you read the last post you saw that the term that I liked was etymology. The history of words and how we got them. If only because some people like to think words are written in stone (get your own link of the Ten Commandments). Others like to think words are living (go look up the constitution and the arguments it has caused). People almost always take words that mean what they WANT. The more meanings, and history of a word you know… the better off you are. If the origins of the word fit the time frame of the meaning you want, USE IT. If that word fits the current meaning of the word, USE IT. Just make sure you know who will be reading it.

Ya wanna know the truth. I fell that any system can be manipulated. I think that Pablo Picasso was right: “Bad artists copy. Great artists steal.”

Just as I have done.

Just to be clear this post is free under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-Sharealike license ( http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.5/).

So we are clearly hear “I’m telling you the **AA will pollute or pay to pollute” so that they can have a market edge. False torrents, bogus feeds… oh and if your citibank account was hacked… REPORT IT. They don’t anwser federally unless it’s over a certain amount.

–Clarification’s–
This whole post was done because while looking at my logs I came across this site. The Stuff about Signal-Noise ratio has to do with a very long conversation I had during the day about exactly that and how to use it to your advantage as a method of hiding. It also has to do with why the words in that first paragraph are there, they are just noise to cover a signal. The signal being that if you don’t read your rights, you’re going to get screwed. The other SNR is how the RIAA/MPAA does this by paying groups like MediaSentry to seed/upload/share bogus copies of music/movies to hinder pirates finding the real thing. The Citibank thing is because someone I know had their account whacked. Generally speaking the effort to do that pays off much better if you do it in bulk, but the laws are set up to protect the companies more than the consumers unless the consumers speak up. If it still don’t make sense, join the club. I have trouble making sense of my thoughts all the time, at least I try to keep them someone coherent on here.

Wanting to believe

March 31st, 2008

Being called something bugs me. Enough that I feel the need to press against it, oddly this is a trait that makes me very easy to manipulate. Negativity is something I seem to have in spades though, it’s been given as reasons for enough things that… well might just be right. It’s a hard thing to argue against really since the very act of doing so could be construded as negative.

While I might be wrong I think that people are naturally drawn toward the negativity of things. The Germans have a word for it schadenfreude, odd word really. I honestly think that people have a hard time with feeling a happines for others. Someone pointed out to me that the reason the news focuses on the negative is that it sells better. The fact this person is in marketing and is getting good enough grades to make a Deans list… well they might be right. However part of marketing is knowing what appeals to people, clearly the negative is what appeals to people.

So a line like “Don’t keep up with the Jones’ beat them” would appeal to that need in people. If by some manner you can convey that a person has greater value, or greater preceived value by their peer group, itappeals to that side of the ego that would cause impulse buys. Appealing to the Id, Ego, Super-Ego of people, knowing how to manipulate each one. But I’ve had that conversation with an amusing cat already.

Eh, I may be a negative person but I still smile when I get the forward of the polar bear playing with dogs. I enjoy the stories of good people. But it sickens me to see those things exploited. I do enjoy those stories, they give me hope. Thats all I need, a muse and hope.

Hello, I’m an addict.

March 30th, 2008

Seems pretty easy to say in reality. Drug addicts do it at NA, alcoholics do it at AA. I guess it’s fitting I do it on the internet, as I’m apparently addicted to electronics and the internet. The weirdos at a treatment center will tell you that addiction has something to do with having a behavior that has negative consequences and yet you still engage in them.

Thats pretty simple really. I’ve spent entire nights and days stuck to a computer, working or playing video games. I’ve allowed electronics/computers and work to cause stress in relationships. I’ve come to depend on them to feel normal. I’ve gotten in trouble with them. I’ve broken laws with them.

It’s come up in thinking several times over the past month. Usually when I open my laptop  for the third or fourth time in couple hours. Why? Oh for nothing more than to check the news and my email. Given that the news don’t change that much and I really don’t get that much email, it’s kinda pointless. It’s terrible really. Falling asleep with the glow of a screen, or falling asleep on your keyboard.

Yeah, seems like a joke and all right? Wish it was, but it’s no surprise to me that they have actually started to notice that it is indeed something that people can become addicted to. There is however one thing that I will NEVER do. Online dating. Surprisingly though, both my Dad and Step-Dad have both done so and ended up married. Just so that we’re clear on this… crawling over broken shards of glass and hot coals while being violently violated so I could beg an ex for a chance would be more favorable than the concept of online dating.

Ehh I think my dog just farted.

Well no duh

March 30th, 2008

Always thought it was a given that guys aren’t all that great at understanding girls. But who would have ever figured that someone would actually do a study on it and break it down math wise. Well someone did and made a nice little paper of it. Not to large of a read only about ten pages. Of course there is a little more to it. But like I said, I figured that was a given.

Girls, very simple. Use English to  get the point across. Tell the guy up front. Please bare in mind however though if your lips press against his. If body parts of either of you end up in the other persons mouth (tongue, finger, toes… I dunno). You’ve pretty much crossed the friendly flirting and gone to the “yes sex would be an agreeable activity”.

In other notes, if you ever get the bright idea to separate your car keys from your work keys before going and drinking for a night. Don’t. Just leave ALL your keys at home. Further more if you have a pocket full of quarters and you end up putting your keys with said quarters… check your piggy bank for your keys. You’ll feel like a moron, but you at least have your keys.

Morning Conversation

March 24th, 2008

So this morning I get a little text that just says “Msn..” of course this is while I’m waiting for my machine to boot up anyhow. I tend to know a fair amount of interesting and twisted people, I very much enjoy random bs with them over messengers. Turns out it’s a little nicer than try’n to have the same conversations in a room or a crowded place.

After you hit the link to read more, that’ll be the bulk of the conversation. Some of the pointless stuff having been pulled out, other wise thats the conversation I had this morning. Anything in italics is notes done now. Names have been pulled so that people don’t get offended.

Kazoo and Farts

March 20th, 2008

So while watching the Simpsons it was the episode of the Stonecutters. At the end they make the comment about “Only two members of this club have special rings” then Bart and Lisa blow these odd whistling rings. This sprang the question of playing a kazoo with farts. So off went a mass text that read.

Wanted: proof that the kazoo can be played with the ass. Anyone know?

Off to 20 people… and because I’m a klutz with my thumbs, it sent twice. Not to worried about it since messages do that sometimes anyhow. Well here’s the answers that I got back.

Try it
Lol… No i dnt knw bt thtd b funny as hel 2 c
I would think a good rip will get you a b flat
LOL OMG hun ur 2 funny. i love ya.
Sorry don’t know anyone that can do that. U gonna try it and let us all know?
How about someone who can kick their own elbow (this person meant lick)
The issue is that the part you blow through is the large side. And you have to hum, not blow.
I don’t have a kazoo but am willing to try.
Duh. You did
*****s pretty good at it (name redacted)
Dnt hav any! hehe
No i dont.
No
No idea

Thankfully I seem to know screwed up people that will amuse me.

Childhood movies as Videogames

March 19th, 2008

I’d almost forgot about it. With as often as you hear of games being made and then scrapped, or that they have a long time until release, it happens. Anyhow Ghostbusters is going to be a video game, and I’d forgotten about it. I do remember hearing about it when the some demo on the 360 popped up and it looked like a Ghostbusters game, but it wasn’t. It looked a heckuva lot like it thought. Turns out it was just a tech demo and a different studio was making the game. Thankfully it will be launching on each of the major systems so I can look forward to it. If you’re curious or want to see a few more links by all means check the wiki on it.

I’m going to have to find my copies of that movie now, haven’t seen it in awhile.
